North Fork Summer Camps for 2-Year-Olds and Older Toddlers

Finding a summer program for a 2-year-old can be surprisingly hard. Most North Fork camps begin at age 3, and even then, many expect kids to be ready for drop-off, group routines, and longer days.

Still, there are a few gentle options on the North Fork and nearby for toddlers and older 2-year-olds. Some are specifically for age 2, while others start at 2.5 or 2.9. Most offer half-day programs with outdoor play, sensory activities, animals, nature, or simple hands-on learning.

Take 2 with Farm Hands

Aquebogue

If you're looking for a camp just for 2-year-olds, Take 2 with Farm Hands is worth a look. The camp day is short and easy, with time in a cozy indoor playroom and an outdoor nature playground. Kids explore simple weekly themes like water, weather, bugs, animals, vehicles, and gardening.

Ages: 2. Days: Tuesday/Thursday, Wednesday/Friday, or Tuesday through Friday. Hours: 9:15 to 11:15 am, with optional aftercare until 12:15 pm. Sessions: 9 weeks starting June 23.

Miss Ashley's Nest

Jamesport

Miss Ashley's Nest is an outdoor half-day camp with a small-group, relaxed feel. The day includes free play, circle time under the trees, garden time, and animal care. Children spend time with chickens, ducks, and a resident bunny, and take part in activities like flower picking, sprinkler play, baking, crafts, and creative projects.

Ages: 2 to 8. Days: Monday through Friday. Hours: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Sessions: June 29 through August 21.

Long Island Aquarium — Sea Squirt

Riverhead

Sea Squirt is a short, two-day program for kids ages 2 to 3. Toddlers visit the aquarium's interactive salt marsh, meet animals up close, and join sensory activities. This is not a full summer camp, but it can be a good first structured experience for a younger child.

Ages: 2 to 3. Dates: June 22 and 23. Hours: 9:00 to 11:30 am. Registration includes all-day aquarium admission for the camper and one adult.

Holistic Playschool — Camp Wonder Years

Wading River

Camp Wonder Years is a half-day summer program with a new theme each week. The daily schedule mixes hands-on play with simple learning activities: maker stations, engineering challenges, slime lab, mud kitchen, art, gardening, storytelling, puppet shows, yoga, team games, and water play.

Ages: 2.5 to 6. Days: Monday through Friday. Hours: 9:00 to 11:30 am. Sessions: 8 weeks starting July 6.

Sylvester Manor Youth Programs — Meadowlarks

Shelter Island

Sylvester Manor runs nature-based summer programs on its 236-acre property on Shelter Island. Their program for the youngest children, Meadowlarks, centers on outdoor time at the farm, forest, and garden.

Ages: 2 to 3.5. Days: Monday through Friday. Hours: 8:30 to 11:30 am, with optional aftercare until 12:30 pm. Sessions: June 29 through August 21.

It Takes a Village

Hampton Bays and Southampton

It Takes a Village offers summer camps with a new theme each week, including farms and gardens, oceans and bays, bugs and butterflies, building, and outer space. Families can choose half-day or full-day options. Full-day campers also take part in afternoon activities like dance, yoga, art, music, and cooking.

Ages: 2.9 to 5. Days: Monday through Friday. Hours: Half-day 9:00 am to 12:00 pm or full-day 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Sessions: July 6 to August 14.

A quick note on ages

Age cutoffs are usually strict because of staffing and licensing requirements. If your child is close to the minimum age by summer, contact the program to ask about possible flexibility, as well as overall fit, separation, and potty training.
