North Fork Summer Camps for 2-Year-Olds and Older Toddlers

Finding a summer program for a 2-year-old can be surprisingly hard. Most North Fork camps begin at age 3, and even then, many expect kids to be fully ready for drop-offs, group routines, and longer days.

Still, there are a few options on the North Fork and nearby for toddlers and older 2-year-olds. Some are designed specifically for age 2, while others welcome toddlers into a mixed-age group. Most offer half-day programs with outdoor play, sensory activities, animals, nature, or simple hands-on learning.

Take 2 with Farm Hands

Aquebogue

If you're searching for a camp just for 2-year-olds, Take 2 with Farm Hands is worth a look. The camp day is short and easy, with time in a cozy indoor playroom and an outdoor playground. Kids explore simple weekly themes like water, weather, bugs, animals, vehicles, and gardening.

Ages 2, Tuesday/Thursday, Wednesday/Friday, or Tuesday to Friday, 9:15 to 11:15 am, with optional aftercare until 12:15 pm. June 23 to August 22.

Miss Ashley's Nest

Jamesport

Miss Ashley's Nest is an outdoor half-day camp with a small group and a relaxed feel. There is free play, circle time under the trees, gardening, and caring for animals. Kids spend time with ducks and a resident bunny and enjoy flower picking, sprinkler play, baking, crafts, and nature art projects.

Ages 2 to 8, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. June 29 to August 21.

Long Island Aquarium: Sea Squirt

Riverhead

Sea Squirt is a short two-day program for kids ages 2 to 3. Toddlers visit the aquarium's interactive salt marsh, meet animals up close, and take part in sensory activities. While it's not a full summer camp, it can be a great first structured experience for younger kids.

Ages 2 to 3, 9:00 to 11:30 am. June 22 and 23. Registration includes all-day aquarium admission for the camper and one adult.

Holistic Playschool: Camp Wonder Years

Wading River

Camp Wonder Years is a half-day summer program with a different theme each week. Each day blends hands-on play and learning. Kids can try maker stations, engineering challenges, slime lab, mud kitchen, art, storytelling, puppet shows, yoga, team games, and water play.

Ages 2.5 to 6, 9:00 to 11:30 am. July 6 to August 28.

Sylvester Manor Youth Programs: Meadowlarks

Shelter Island

Sylvester Manor runs nature-based summer programs on its 236-acre property on Shelter Island. Their program for the youngest children, Meadowlarks, focuses on outdoor time and includes stories, music, and movement.

Ages 2 to 3.5, 8:30 to 11:30 am, with optional aftercare until 12:30 pm. June 29 to August 21.

It Takes a Village

Hampton Bays and Southampton

It Takes a Village runs in Hampton Bays and Southampton, so it's not the North Fork, but worth the drive if you need a full-day option. The camp offers a new theme each week. This summer, it's farms and gardens, oceans and bays, bugs and butterflies, building, and outer space. Families can choose half-day or full-day options. Full-day campers join afternoon activities like dance, yoga, art, music, and cooking.

Ages 2.9 to 5. Half-day 9:00 am to 12:00 pm or full-day 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. July 6 to August 14.

A quick note on ages

Age cutoffs are usually strict due to staffing and licensing rules. If your child is close to the minimum age by summer, contact the program to ask about possible flexibility, overall fit, and issues like separation and potty training.
