About the program

Quogue Wildlife Refuge has two outdoor programs for older students.

Young Explorers is for students entering grades 7 and 8. Over four days, campers explore the refuge, travel to Sunken Forest on Fire Island, go on a kayaking trip, and finish Thursday evening with a night hike at the refuge. Ferry tickets and kayaking supplies are included. Parents need to provide transportation to the Fire Island ferry terminal and the kayaking launch site.

Explorers Camp is for students entering grades 9 to 11 and follows the same four-day schedule, but the adventure doesn't stop at sunset. On Thursday, campers hike the trails after dark, then have a campover at the refuge, and go home Friday morning.

QWR memberships start at $35 and include priority registration and lower tuition rates.

Young Explorers runs July 20 to 23 and August 10 to 13. Tuition is $400 for members and $435 for non-members. Explorers Camp runs July 27 to 31. Tuition is $450 for members and $485 for non-members. Members can register until May 11. Non-member registration starts after May 11.
