Lead-backed Salamander Search at Sagg Swamp

The South Fork Natural History Museum (SOFO) is leading a salamander search at Sagg Swamp in Bridgehampton. Environmental educator Tommy Steinbrecher will guide participants as they look for lead-backed salamanders under logs and stones on the forest floor.
Although these small amphibians are common in northeastern forests, they're hard to spot because they spend most of their time underground. On the walk, families will learn about salamander habitats and why they matter to the forest.
Sunday, October 11, at 10:00 am. Sagg Swamp, Bridgehampton. Free for SOFO members; $5 per person for non-members. Advance registration is required. Call SOFO at (631) 537-9735 for the meeting spot. Wear clothing and shoes suitable for wet or muddy conditions.
Details and registration are on the Lead-backed Salamander Search page at SOFO.
