Dorothy P. Flint 4-H Camp in Riverhead offers weeklong day camp programs for children ages 5 to 13 on 140 acres by the Long Island Sound. The camp has been open since 1924, run by Cornell Cooperative Extension and accredited by the American Camp Association.
Clover Buds is for children ages 5 to 7, and Sun Striders is for ages 8 to 13. Each morning, campers take two classes from a rotating weekly schedule. They might spend time on the farm feeding and grooming animals such as goats, sheep, pigs, horses, rabbits, and chickens, or join archery games like Tic-Tac-Toe and Shoot Your Fears. Beach time on the Sound includes swimming, building sandcastles, and playing beach volleyball. Other activities include low ropes challenges, outdoor survival skills, nature hikes, sports like soccer, lacrosse, and ultimate frisbee, visual arts from tie-dye to comic book creation, as well as drama and music. Each week has a different theme.
Eight sessions run June 29 through August 21, Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm. Tuition is $550 per week. Extended care is available until 5:30 pm for an extra $75 per week. Lunch is included, and financial aid is available.
