Peconic Ballet Theater is a dance studio in downtown Riverhead, with classes in ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, contemporary, modern, hip hop, and acro. Dancers are placed by age and level, from their first class at three up to teenagers on the company track. The studio stages a Nutcracker and a Spring Ballet each year, along with twice-yearly Blank Canvas shows in January and June.
The studio divides its classes into three programs.
Tutu Cute (ages 3 to 5)
Introductory ballet and tap for the youngest dancers. Threes and fours take a 45 minute combo class that covers basic steps, musicality, and how to follow along in class. Fours and fives move up to an hour with more technique and terminology to get ready for Ballet 1 and Tap 1. Both groups dance in the Blank Canvas shows in January and June.
Dance Classes (ages 5 to 18)
Leveled classes in ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, acro, and contemporary, placed by age and experience. Dancers can take a single style or build a week across several, and they perform in the Blank Canvas shows each January and June.
Company Program (ages 6 to 18)
The studio's performance track, meeting Wednesdays and Saturdays. It is not an audition: dancers are placed after an evaluation with the studio, and the class load and electives depend on each dancer's level. Training centers on ballet, contemporary, and modern, and company dancers take featured roles in the studio's productions, including the Nutcracker and Spring Ballet, along with community performances.
Weekly classes are billed monthly: $85 for one class a week, $165 for two, and $245 for three, with each additional class $80. Registration and any other fees are on the studio's website.
