WHBPAC Arts Academy gives kids ages 6 to 17 a real theater experience at the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center. Three programs run through the summer, from full musicals to shows the kids write themselves to an intensive led by Broadway professionals. Each week ends with a live performance on the WHBPAC Mainstage.
Musical Theatre Camp · Ages 6-14
Every week brings a new show. Kids arrive on Monday not knowing their roles, and by Friday, they're performing in costume with sets for an audience. The productions are part of the Missoula Children's Theatre touring program, with WHBPAC teaching artists leading the workshops. Ages 6 to 7 and 8 and up work in separate groups. This summer's shows are Peter and Wendy, The Tortoise and the Hare, and The Wiz of the West.
Runs Monday through Friday: July 6-10, July 13-17, and August 10-14. Monday through Thursday 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, Friday 1:00 to 7:00 pm. Tuition is $675 per week.
Tween Theatre · Ages 8-13
Two weeks, two different approaches. Olympic Village (July 27-30) is an original show created by WHBPAC's staff, and every kid gets a meaningful part. During the week, teaching artists help campers develop their characters and acting skills before the Thursday performance.
Twisted Fairytales (August 17-21) is great for kids who want to create their own story instead of performing someone else's script. They'll write a fairytale musical from scratch, including the story, characters, songs, and costumes, and put it on stage by Friday.
Olympic Village runs Monday through Thursday, July 27-30, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Twisted Fairytales runs Monday through Friday, August 17-21, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Tuition is $650 per week.
Camp Broadway · Ages 10-17
This week-long intensive is led by Broadway professionals and focuses on acting, vocals, and dance. It ends with a full production of The Addams Family. On Thursday, the group takes a charter bus to NYC for a Broadway show. This summer, they will see The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
Runs Monday through Friday, August 3-7, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Tuition is $875.
